Another photo from the folk music festival at the Tyresta village on Sunday. There he was all alone in the Dahlgrensgården building. Playing his chordophone for no one but himself, so I sat down and listened to him play a tune. Oh, and nice socks.

There's a folk music festival at the old village in the Tyresta National Park every Summer. The Swedish name for such an event is Spelmansstämma. Not really my thing, and it has always collided with a few other more interesting events, but not this year so I jumped on the steel horse, stopped in Handen to ask a friend to tag along and off we went. We arrived at 1300 hours just minutes before the event started. I counted a few hundred people including a few familiar faces. It was very hot and sunny and we found the warmest cafe table and enjoyed a sandwich and some coffee as we started shooting. After the coffee we strolled around listening to all the music. The musicians probably had the most fun. They walked around with their instruments ready and formed new groups all afternoon. At one time I heard at least three different folk songs from three different directions! More photos tomorrow when I'm done with the editing.

Alghot Niska lived a different life. He played Olympic football for Finland in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He fought in the Winter War. During World war II he smuggled Jews out from Nazi-Germany. The Gestapo was always after him. During Finnish prohibition he handled illegal liquor and became a famous bootlegger. During that period he had his headquarters at this farm house in Tyresta. Police in both Finland and Sweden tried their best to catch the folk hero and he spent some time in jail in both countries. Niska died in 1954 at the age of 67. By then he was all alone in the world. He had no money, no family, and no friends.

I took the bike to Tyresta national park three days ago. Grey skies with some rain,maybe 10C, but the colors were great. This is the old gravel road near the Tyresta Village. I showed the photo to the girls and they seemed to like it.

Always something happening at the National Park. During the Tyresta Day the park was crowded, and that was an unusual feeling. I headed over to Bylsjön where a couple of rangers from the park were answering questions from visitors, next to a campfire where people were roasting hot dogs. The rangers showed off their 4 wheeler and also offered everyone a free beverage.
