br> The second annual Velothon Stockholm bike race took place today. Sunny skies and Summer temperatures so no one could complain too much. Although, it was probably a tough day for many riders, and I noticed a few tired faces as I stood by the side of the road at Skogsekebyvägen in Tungelsta. The race was 155 km long on mostly closed off roads. No elite riders this year so everyone who finished the race won it!Wednesday, August 12, 2015
Spotted this cyclist in Handen. The bike looked interesting so I asked if I could get a few shots. To get the conversation going I asked something like 'what muscle groups gets the best workout here'. That rather stupid question amused Anders Bäckman a bit as the answer was quite obvious. That would be the arms was his response. Four years ago Anders was out on a bike ride (on a normal looking bicycle), when he had an accident. A lorry driver had parked in the bike lane and Anders was left paralyzed after that crash. Hence this bike construction that he uses today. I asked him if he uses the bike often and he said that he rides more today than he did before the accident. Anders lives in Handen and works as an animator. What I didn't ask was anything else, but luckily for me Anders left a comment on flickr and a link to his web site. Turns out he is a world class Tetraplegic Elite Handcyclist, who won Bronze in the very recent world championships!

One or two warm days lately, almost Summer-like. And whenever that happens I tend to shoot photos like these. Cyclist working hard on a uphill climb at Hanveden. His bike club is Försvarets SK which means that he is in the armed forces. Second photo shows summer driving in a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville in Handen. And the last snap is how some of my panning photos turns out sometimes. No one ever said that it should be easy...

Too cold for me this morning. The temperature said 0C, add to that the storm winds and I decided to leave the bike at home and go for a promenade instead. But I did see a few tough cyclists, like this girl along Södertäljevägen.

Grace Down Under in Perth wanted me to get the bike out. Krille in Karlstad wanted me to have one week of bicycle related posts. That didn't happen as I posted a non-bicycle related photo yesterday, but you will both be happy to know that I did go for a bike ride today. It was a bit chilly, around -6C and windy, but with a blue sky. Shot this collage along the bike path/walkway at Krigslida near the commuter station.

Spotted this guy in Jordbro on Saturday. He was lost. And late for a meeting down at my favorite beach Årsta Havsbad, so I decided to help him out. This is Bo Dellensten. He works as a traffic consultant. His company has worked with many municipalities in the greater Stockholm area, including Huddinge Tyresö and Nacka, but not Haninge, at least not yet. Bo is obviously a keen cyclist (despite not owning a bike map over Haninge). But he did have a GPS mounted on the bike. He has used this recumbent bicycle for a number of years. It's a Dutch made bike, a M5 20-20. Bo also has a web site about cycling, called www.cykelguiden.nu/. He has worked as a journalist and written a few books about cycling.

Two photos from a recent visit to one of the lakes at Rudan. I'm calling the first one: Im @ d lake, whr r you? I sat down next to the girls on the second photo while shooting some photos of a couple of fishers. I then asked the girls if I could shoot a portrait of them, but they turned me down. The blonde said that she preferred to be behind the camera. So I told them that I might take one or two candid portraits from the path and that was fine with them.

I was waiting at a railway crossing on Sunday when Ingvar, who came from the other side of the crossing decided to cross, despite that the barriers were down. I made a comment about it and we started to talk. Turns out that he knew quite a lot about my family. When he was a kid he took a ride in my grandfathers old 1937 Chevy, a car I have never heard about. Ingvar's grandfather bought a bakery in Tungelsta many years ago, a place where my mother used to buy bread. The building is still around, but today it is a private residence. Ingvar also told me that I had taken a photo of him a few years ago. That is the second photo in this post which is fun because it looks like I could have taken both photos on the same day and not two years apart! I also learned that Ingvar is good friends with one of my cousins. Oh, and we both ride crescent bicycles that we have bought from the same local shop. In the end we talked for about ten minutes, so the time he was hoping to save by not waiting for the commuter train to pass was lost because of me.
