    Ultra
We had a snow storm yesterday. My bike ride home took twenty minutes longer than usual. It was very dark. I rode straight into the wind and was tossed right and left here and there. There was also a lot of tree branches on the walkways so I had to keep an eye out for those. In Västerhaninge I noticed that a big traffic sign was lying on a lawn close to the bike path, I'm guessing that the strong winds did that. Arriving home I decided to make a quick dinner, just in case. I then chatted to my brother who is in Nicosia, Cyprus, and he told me that he had just received a power outage warning for Tungelsta on his smart phone, (I used to have that app but had forgotten to install it on my new phone), so I warmed some water for a cup of tea and five minutes later everything went dark. So I sat in the dark with my tea before lighting a few candles. The power came back three hours later.

    Pirates of the Caribbean
Spotted this truck parked at the indoor driving range in Jordbro. The Curse of the Black Pearl. The guy driving this truck must really like that movie.

Jerusalem street is a short street in Riga centre, connecting Dzirnavu and Elizabetes streets. It got it's current name only in 1998, in honor to Israel's capital city.

Jeruzalemes iela ir īsa iela Rīgas centrā, kas savieno Elizabetes un Dzirnavu ielas. Savu pašreizējo nosaukumu tā ieguva tikai 1998. gadā, par godu Izraēlas galvaspilsētai.

    Building Site
This was a big field at Lillgården a few years ago. Now it is a building site with the new road to and from Lillgården going through it. I have showed you photos from here a couple of times. This big crane arrived last week so I'm guessing it will be another Winter with a lot of construction here as Turbinen plans to build a hundred or so apartments here.

View from Aizkraukle castle mound towards frozen Daugava river in a cold winter day.

Skats no Aizkraukles pilskalna uz aizsalušo Daugavu, aukstā un sarmainā ziemas dienā. Viens no plašākajiem un iespaidīgākajiem skatiem Daugavas krastos un Latvijā kopumā.

    Turn Right
The last "plankorsning",(railroad crossing), in Tungelsta is history now. Replaced with an underpass along the Nynäsbanan, so if you want to continue down Karlsrovägen you need to turn right here, go through the underpass and then drive on a new stretch of road that will connect you with the old road in a few hundred meters. The traffic opened on the second rail track late last year but there are still a lot of work left nearer the commuter station.

Plowing snow from the road. Talking on the phone, and keeping an eye on the photographer that was walking on the side-walk at Allévägen in Tungelsta.

    Tin Man
The Tin Man doesn't do much. Just stands there, year round waiting for the mail to arrive. I met him at Krigslida yesterday. He wasn't complaining despite the news that the cold weather is likely to stay for at least ten long days. -10C as I'm typing this, where are my long johns?

It started to snow last night. By midnight we had the first power outage of the year. By morning everything was white. Spotted this bike on my walk through a snowy Tungelsta a couple of hours ago.

    A hole in the wall
Thieves used a front-loader to break in to this SIBA-store in Handen in the early hours of the morning. I was out shopping for a few smart-phone items but when I arrived to the store the builders told me that the store would be closed all day. There was a similar robbery here one year ago. No one has been arrested for any of those crimes.

The Pier The Pier in December The Pier in November
I started a new photo project late last year. For the next year I will be taking a photo of this pier every month. You can find the pier at the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve in Handen. Here are the first three photos. I took the top photo yesterday. The second snap is from early December, and the last one from mid-November of last year when we got the first snow of the season.
